Theresa Regina, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday due to complications from congestive heart failure. She was 93 years old and would have celebrated her 94th birthday next month.
Born in 1932, she was the daughter of immigrant parents and the fourth of nine children. She was raised in a modest two-bedroom apartment in New York’s Little Italy during a time when Italian immigrants faced significant discrimination. From these humble beginnings she grew into a woman whose life embodied resilience, grace, and the American Dream.
She was a sweet, beautiful, and kind-hearted soul who was universally loved. An extraordinary woman, she lived a truly remarkable life. She married a wonderful man, raised two children, and lived to see her two grandchildren grow into thriving contributors to society. Later in life, she welcomed her two great-granddaughters into the world, who became her greatest pride and joy.
Her life spanned an extraordinary period of history. She witnessed the advent of hot-water flats, the Great Depression, the rise of radio and television, World War II, the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, the social upheaval of the 1960s, the moon landings, the opening of China, the feminist movement, the digital age, the expansion of gender and same-sex equality, and the election of the nation’s first African American president.
She loved her church, her country, and above all, her family.
She lived on her own terms and passed the same way; quietly, without suffering, and without lingering. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family she cherished. While we grieve her passing, we also celebrate a life well lived and are deeply grateful for her peaceful transition.
She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
