Julius John Bednarik, affectionately known as Ben, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on July 29, 1936, in Slovakia, formally known as Czechoslovakia. He came to the United States at the young age of two years old and was raised in Brooklyn, New York by his parents John and Anna. Ben lived a life defined by faith, family, music, and unwavering kindness.
A longtime resident of Farmingville, Ben was a deeply devoted member of Saint Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church. His spiritual life was a source of great fulfillment, and he shared his love of music as a dedicated member of the church choir for many years. His voice, steady and full of reverence, became a familiar comfort to the congregation he cherished.
Ben was the beloved husband of Marie, with whom he shared more than 50 years of joyful marriage. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. He was a devoted father to his five children Jesse, Wade, James, Joseph and Cynthia and took immense pride in watching his family grow. Ben was also a cherished grandfather to Jesse Jr., Michael, Daniel, James Jr., Elizabeth, Antonio, Nickolas and Daphne, and a delighted great grandfather to Julian, Ronan, River, and RJ.
Outside of his family and church, Ben embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. An avid golfer, he could often be found on the links, enjoying both the challenge of the game and the camaraderie of friends. His steady swing and Brooklyn wit made him a memorable presence on every fairway.
In his younger years, Ben enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing, and he carried a lifelong love for baseball. Fresh out of high school, he even tried out for the New York Yankees, a story he shared with a humble smile and a spark of pride. He also treasured the simple pleasure of meeting friends for a cup of coffee, reminiscing, laughing, and reflecting on life’s many memories.
Ben will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his devotion to those he loved, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. His legacy lives on in the music he shared, the faith he embodied, and the family he nurtured with unwavering love.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
