With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, uncle, friend, and rock legend, Johnny Traylor, who left us far too soon at the age of 60, just 3 days shy of his 61st birthday.
A true original, John lived life with volume turned all the way up. A lifelong lover of music, he spent over 30 years sharing his incredible voice and stage presence with fans across the region. He was the heart and soul of his tribute band The Wizard of Ozz, and before that, he rocked the stage with his original band, Xtra Xtra. He helped ignite the tribute band scene back in 1993, paving the way for a genre that continues to bring joy to countless music lovers. His voice, his energy, and his passion for performance left a mark on every stage he touched.
Off stage, John was just as unforgettable. He found freedom on two wheels, riding his beloved Harley-Davidsons with the wind in his hair and the open road ahead. But nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his children—Janell, Brianna, and Johnny. Whether he was cheering on his favorite football team, whipping up a pot of his famous Sunday sauce, or just laughing with his kids, those were the moments he cherished most.
John was one of a kind— funny, passionate, and full of love. His legacy will live on through his music, his family, and the many lives he touched with his unforgettable spirit.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his bandmates, and the community of fans and friends who loved him dearly.
Rock on, Dad. We’ll carry your song in our hearts forever. See you on the other side.
Thank you Goodnight, we love you all!
