John W. Adams Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on March 24, 1945, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY. He was a loving Husband, Father, Father-In-Law, Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, and friend to all who knew him.
He was a loving and devoted husband to Lillian for 58 years. He embodied the true meaning of fatherhood to John, Christopher, James, showing his love not just with words but through his endless patience and support. He was also a wonderful and kind father-in-law to Jenifer. He found his greatest joy in his four granddaughters Caroline, Caitlin, Grace, and Brianna. He was immensely proud of each of their accomplishments. He will always and forever be in our hearts. His legacy of service, love, and guidance will continue to inspire and live on in the countless lives he enriched.
John also dedicated his time to youth programs in his community, serving as Cubmaster with the Cub Scouts, guiding countless young people through scouting adventures. He also coached his children’s sports teams, instilling teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love of the game.
John lived a life devoted to service, honor, and compassion. A proud Vietnam Veteran, he served with the 1st Air Cavalry from 1967 to 1968, where he distinguished himself as a high marksman and forward observer serving during the Tet Offensive. Following his military service, he dedicated his life to supporting fellow veterans through his work as a Local Veteran Resource Specialist with the NYS Department of Labor.
John was also a committed leader in the veterans’ community, serving many years as Commander for Rankin-Healy VFW Post 4785 in Brooklyn and the Tordik-Diederich-Duffield Post 4927 in Port Jefferson, formerly Centereach. His unwavering dedication and advocacy touched countless lives, ensuring that all veterans received the respect, recognition, and care they deserved.
John will be dearly missed.
