Giovanni Matthew Ayala-Haas, 5 years old passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 7, 2025 at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. Giovanni was born on October 3, 2019 at Winthrop Hospital. Giovanni faced many battles throughout his life. He spent the first 2 years of his life in the hospital. His family traveled with him from Long Island, to Boston, Westchester, New Jersey, and Manhattan. Despite every obstacle he faced he always had a smile on his face and beat every odd that was thrown against him.
His home life was filled with love, and light. He had many nurses that cared for him like family and although he spent his life with a trach, feeding tube and on a ventilator that didn’t stop him from learning how to sign, walk, and give the best side eye. His favorite shows to watch were Elmo, & Mickey Mouse, with the occasional Trolls sing along. His personality lit up any room, his laugh was contagious and will forever live on through his family. He is survived by his mom, Gabrielle Ayala, his dad, Nicholas Petero-Haas, his 2 grandmas, Jennifer Haas, & Theresa Ayala, his grandfather, Manuel Ayala, his aunt, Olivia Petero-Haas, and his uncle, Devin Ayala.
Giovanni’s final battle was with his lung disease when he got diagnosed with pneumonia back in March of 2025, he was placed on life support for a few days and got better for 2 months, but unfortunately his lungs took a turn and there was nothing more the doctors could do. His body was weak and tired but he was so strong and we will always celebrate his life, and love people the way he did because he had such a big heart and a beautiful soul.
Forever in our hearts.
“I carried you for every second of your life, & I will love you for every second of mine.”
