Eileen Osonitsch

June 20, 1941 — July 11, 2025

EILEEN (GERLIPP) OSONITSCH, 84, of Coram, New York and formerly of the Woodhaven and Ridgewood neighborhoods of Queens, passed away on July 11, 2025. Born on June 20, 1941 to Charles and Hannah (Hess) Gerlipp, Eileen is survived by her loving children Frederick, Theresa, Steven, and Jeffrey; their spouses, Kathy, Jen, and Kim; her grandchildren Jessica (and Mike), Amanda, Joseph (and Carly), Steven (and Kat), Matthew, Thomas, Meghan, and William, and great-grandchildren Sophia, Steven, and Saoirse.

Growing up in Ridgewood, she, like many of the kids in the neighborhood, liked to hang out in (and congregate in front of) a local candy shop. After her father passed away suddenly when she was 15 years old, she was sitting and crying in front of the candy store when one of the young men in the neighborhood, Frederick Osonitsch, stopped and spent some time consoling her. This was the beginning of a friendship which would soon blossom into a life-long love affair.

After graduating from Grover Cleveland High School, Eileen worked briefly as a secretary at a firm in NYC. She married Fred after his service in the US Army, raised their children in Woodhaven, Queens, and worked as a dental assistant at Woodhaven Dental Associates. After retirement, She and Fred moved to Coram in Suffolk County, NY.

Eileen was adored and loved by all who knew her for her innate kindness, gentleness, honesty, and loyalty. In addition to rooting for the NY Rangers, the thing she most enjoyed was spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed the hilarious and oft-times chaotic interactions between herself, her husband, her children and their spouses, and her grandchildren during family gatherings at which old stories were swapped and bad jokes exchanged.

She always cherished spending time with her sister Elinor and her husband Tom and their daughters Kathy, Jeannie, Debbie, and Mary. These gatherings - especially when both sisters got together with their respective families - were, if anything, even more hilarious as the hijinks increased exponentially.

She enjoyed an enduring and life-long friendship with a core group of beloved friends which included (in alphabetical order) Alex, Arlene, Bunny, Eddie, Joanne, Joe, Rita, and Wiz. She also enjoyed special friendships with many others she met throughout her life such as Ellen as well as other friends, neighbors, and co-workers too numerous to name.

More recently the thing she enjoyed most was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, hearing and sharing stories about and pictures of them.

On July 11, 2025 she passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family and by the grace of God has achieved her eternal reward and dwells now in paradise with the Lord Jesus Christ, His Most Blessed Mother, the holy angels and saints, and those friends and family who preceded her to their own heavenly eternity. Say hello to dad for us, mom.
