Edward A. Russo

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Anthony Russo, on July 9th, in central Florida. Eddie was born on St. Patrick's Day in 1949, in NYC, New York, to Anthony & Antionette. He grew up in Astoria and then Bayside. Eddie graduated HS from Brooklyn Tech, in the field of electronics. He proudly served in the United States Army, in communications, from 1967 - 1969. He was a radio relay & carrier operator during his 13-month tour in Viet Nam. Eddie's military service was a source of great pride. He carried the values of duty, loyalty and sacrifice with him throughout his life. In retirement, he proudly wore his military ball cap with all his medals, everywhere he went.

Following his military service, Ed worked as a communications tech at AT&T for 38 years. The first 25 years were in Manhattan, and the remainder of his career in Shirley, LI, much closer to home. He married Nancy in August 1972. After living in Selden for 39 years, he and Nancy moved to The Villages, Florida. Married for almost 54 years, Eddie was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. He remained in contact with his childhood friends of 65 years.

Eddie found joy in model railroading, and joined a model railroad club on LI, where they had a fabulous train layout. Eddie and Nancy enjoyed several trips to visit trains in various cities in CT and PA. Ironically, he rode the LI Railroad to work every day! Eddie and Nancy frequently traveled to many countries in the Caribbean, and loved vacationing at Sandals resorts. Las Vegas was also a favorite vacation destination. As a NY Mets fan, Eddie, made many visits to Shea Stadium with his family. He relished the Mets championship in 1986. Eddie would often be found watching a good western on TV.

Eddie is survived by his wife Nancy, and son Michael. He was preceded in death by his Mom, Dad, and older sister Rita Ann Russo. Eddie had 5 wonderful nieces and nephews: Mandy, Jessie, Patrick, Ashley and Kim. Though he is no longer with us, his love, example and legacy will stay in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace, and may we always remember the sacrifices he made for his family, his community and the nation he so proudly served.
