Extremely proud Grammie to Dylan & Kelly Gaches, Tyler Gaches and Sean
Logan.
Her loss will be felt by her many cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
Anne was a person of service. She was a Nurse (a nurse’s nurse, as many would
say), first at St. John’s Hospital in Queens from which she graduated nursing
school in 1967. Then a long career at Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson.
Forced to retire early in 2004 due to a stroke,
Anne became a volunteer at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson.
She was a Eucharistic Minister and longtime parishioner at St. Margarets of
Scotland. She would serve at Mass on Sunday and
bring communion to the sick and homebound for decades.
A widow at age 31, she proudly raised her three children as a single mom. At 33,
facing a serious health crisis, she was treated and beat breast cancer at a time
when having breast cancer at 33 was unheard of. She managed to raise her three
children in the house that her and Gene bought in 1972, keep food on the table
and always have new clothes for school every year.
She always managed to do whatever was necessary,
so her children did not miss out many things.
Her life was wrought with many health conditions during the last years of her life.
She battled six strokes, parkinsonism, and another bout of cancer, astonishing
many with her resilience.
She was a warrior and a survivor.
Her greatest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren. She is loved,
and will be terribly missed, but she is no longer suffering, and we take comfort in that.
